The projects that have been/are proposed to be undertaken by Ministry of Railways which would bring down CO2 emissions substantially are -

  •   Induction of latest energy efficient rolling stock technology – setting up of Greenfield Electric& Diesel Locomotive Factory at Madhepura & Marhowra respectively, and Chittranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) Ancillary project at Dankuni which are critical for adopting regenerative braking and improved fuel/energy consumption benchmarks.
  •   Replacement of energy inefficient train services power supply systems with energy efficient locomotive delivered power supply systems (Head-on generation).
  •   Introduction of self powered trains in replacement of locomotive hauled trains to reduce speed differential between long distance and short distance trains
